RENOVATIONS/ADDITIONS
1747-1753 Connecticut Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C.
Complete interior renovation of this three-story masonry bearing wall, steel and wood-framed commercial building built in the early 1900's. The work included new openings for code-compliant exit stairs, framing of a new mezzanine level, removal of a bearing wall, partial demolition of a framed ground floor area and reconstruction of this area with an ADA entrance ramp and removal of attic floor framing to create taller ceiling space at the third floor. Extensive field surveys and documentation of the existing structure were required since existing building structural drawings were not available.
