Principals

Prior to forming Holbert Apple Associates, Inc., David Holbert was Executive Vice President, a Principal-in-Charge and Project Manager with a large structural engineering consulting firm in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. During this 24 year period, Mr. Holbert was responsible for a wide variety of projects ranging from new 1,000,000+ sq. ft. health care facilities, office buildings, parking structures, hotels, military housing projects and academic facilities to minor renovation projects. He has also performed numerous structural due-diligence surveys, peer reviews, failure investigations and has served as an expert witness.

Mr. Holbert holds a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (Structural Option) degree from The Pennsylvania State University (1975) and was named "Outstanding Penn State Engineering Alumnus" in 2001. He has active professional registrations in Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, Alabama, Arizona (Civil), California (Civil), Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carollina, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia. His professional organization membership activities have included the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute, the American Institute of Steel Construciton, the Consulting Engineers Council of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. (Past President), the International Concrete Repair Institute, and the Structural Engineers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. (Past Chairman).

Prior to establishing Holbert Apple Associates, Inc., Richard Apple was a Vice President with a large structural engineering consulting firm in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for 20 years. As a Project Manager and Principal, he was responsible for the design of numerous major projects, including medical facilities, office buildings, high-rise apartment buildings, parking structures and other miscellaneous building projects. He has extensive design experience with concrete, post-tensioned concrete, steel, wood and masonry structures. He has also prepared feasibility studies, peer reviews, structural failure investigations and fire damage evaluations as well as designing structures involving security/blast hardening and force protection requirements.

Mr. Apple holds a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (Structural Option) degree from The Pennsylvania State University (1979). He has active professional registrations in Maryland and Virginia. His professional organization memberships include the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute, the American Institute of Steel Construction and the Structural Engineers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. (Past Chairman). He also serves on the Connection Prequalificatoin Review Panel (CPRP) of AISC which establishes criteria and develops prequalified seismic moment connections.
